I am writing with reference to the Polish organisation, Green Brigades Publishing House. Their unique publication, "Green Brigades", is essential for the continuing distribution of information for the environmental movement in Poland. "Green Brigades" facilitates discussion between a wide variety of environmental, development and social groups, inclusive of all ecological viewpoints and issues. Some of the broad topics include wildlife conservation, animal rights, environmental protection, women's' rights, peace issues, alternative economics, and others to numerous to mention.

By creating a forum for debate, "Green Brigades" encourages active democracy, giving floor to around 300 volunteer authors every year. By allowing them to voice their opinions, thus fighting against the political apathy that is rife in modern Europe, others are encouraged to participate in decision making processes, encouraging further development of a civil society. A connection is made between democracy and the environment, which is imperative for ecological stability.

As I am sure you are aware, it is critical that campaigners can form a cohesive, informed network in order to continue their struggle for a more sustainable planet. One of the best ways to do this is through a well written, intelligent magazine, of which "Green Brigades" is one of only a few regular green publications in Poland and the only one to produce an English version. By having an English version, "Green Brigades" helps an international network of campaigners to become aware of the ecological situation in Poland. This enables us to learn from each other, offering skills and encouraging international co-operation.

In order to continue its invaluable work, it is essential that "Green Brigades" remains low cost to its readers, while still retaining the same high quality and wide circulation. Thus, support from monetary trusts such as Project Know-How is vital.

I hope that for "Green Brigades" the future is bright, that it will be able to prosper, continuing its inspirational work and opening new opportunities to many more individuals.

Yours sincerely,

Maggie Charnley
